Rutherglen is a town of more than 30,000 people in South Lanarkshire.
Many areas of the town lack good green infrastructure and the benefits it would bring to people and wildlife. It is the ambition of the CCF project is to increase the urban canopy cover across the whole of Glasgow City Region (GCR) to 20%
Rutherglen was selected as a target neighbourhood because of the low canopy cover, estimated at just 14.1%.
The combination of local canopy cover and data on deprivation from the SIMD indicates that this area would be most at risk from climate events that can be mitigated by increased canopy cover.
Our aim is to plant 1000 trees in Rutherglen. Will you help us?
This year, we planted 1000 whips and 20 standards near the Rutherglen Glencairn Football grounds across two planting events, one with students from a local primary school and one with community groups.
