Burnbank

Burnbank is an area in the town of Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, it was formerly a separate mining village before being absorbed into the town.

Many areas of Burnbank lack good green infrastructure and the benefits it would bring to people and wildlife and the CCF initiative aims to increase the urban across the whole of Glasgow City Region to 20%.

We aim to plant up to 1,000 trees in the neighbourhood as part of our '1000 trees' campaign, to date, 130 standards (large trees) and 298 whips (small trees) have been planted in Burnbank.

Work to date

In 2024, 88 whips were planted in Burnbank in greenspace beside Greenfield Social Club with CCF Tree Warden Volunteers.

The CCF team and Tree Wardens planted a further 160 trees here in 2025 to bring the total in this area to 248 new trees. Later, an additional 50 trees were planted in a patch of greenspace at Park Burn Court Industrial Estate bringing the total number of whips to 298 whips to date.

A total of 130 standards have also been planted, and, once mature these trees will bring about many benefits for the local community.

1000 Trees Campaign

This area of Burnbank was selected because of the low canopy cover. The combination of low canopy cover and data on deprivation from the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation indicates that these areas would be most at risk from climate events that can be mitigated by increased canopy cover.

Our aim is to plant up to 1000 trees across Burnbank. We will continue to work in the area to find opportunities to increase canopy cover. Will you help us?
