Levern & District is a community council area in Glasgow that takes in South Nitshill and Priesthill and is home to the Silverburn Shopping Centre. It contains a number of key transport routes; bordered to the east by the M77 motorway, to the north and west by the busy A73 and has the main Glasgow South Western railway line running through it. It is the ambition of the CCF project is to increase the urban across the whole of Glasgow City Region to 20%.
Levern & District was selected as a target neighbourhood because of the low canopy cover, estimated at just 16.1%.
The combination of local canopy cover and data on deprivation from the SIMD indicates that this area would be most at risk from climate events that can be mitigated by increased canopy cover.
Our aim is to plant 1000 trees in Levern & District. Will you help us?
Our ‘1000 trees’ campaign will focus on delivering neighbourhood level trees where they are most needed. Initially the project will concentrate planting in Househill Park.
This March, we planted 2515 whips in various sites in Househill Park across two planting events. One, where students from a local primary school planted whips, and one where community groups came along to plant the rest of the whips.
